KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth has said it will not join PAS’ Oct 4 rally against the Urban Renewal Act (URA) unless the government rejects its proposals on the bill. Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh acknowledged that his party shared PAS’ concerns but stressed the importance of dialogue first. “Perhaps before protesting, it might be better for us to have a roundtable discussion and propose solutions to the government,” he said in a Facebook video.

Akmal noted that Umno has formed a committee chaired by vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani to study the URA, with discussions held at the Urban Malay Convention. PAS Youth announced it would formally invite Umno Youth, describing the rally as a move to pressure the government to withdraw the bill.
