Bangkok authorities are racing to stabilize a massive sinkhole on Samsen Road, measuring 30 metres wide, 30 metres long, and 50 metres deep, after a subway tunnel collapse triggered rapid soil movement.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) deployed 50,000 sandbags and crushed stone to protect the under-construction Vajira Hospital station and divert rainwater. 

While the hospital’s underground structure remains secure, the nearby Samsen police station is at risk, with two pillars lost and 50 people evacuated. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul warned repairs could take a year. An MRTA-led investigation is underway to determine the cause.
