Mahathir intervened in 2018 for P Prabu, while Ismail wrote in 2021 on humanitarian grounds for Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam.
Singapore Executions
Despite their efforts, both men were executed. Surendran, an adviser to Lawyers for Liberty, said the interventions were “meaningful” as they provided consolation to grieving families. He spoke after joining a candlelight vigil at the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur for his client, K Datchinamurthy, scheduled for execution tomorrow. Datchinamurthy was convicted in 2015 of smuggling diamorphine into Singapore.
