KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — A 28-year-old Chinese tourist, Liu Jinqi, was fined RM5,000 after admitting to sending a fake bomb threat to AirAsia. Liu, who flew from Tawau, Sabah to Kuala Lumpur before continuing to Beijing, wanted to change her seat but received no response through the airline’s website, email, or counters.
Bomb Threat
Frustrated, she typed “human service emergency bomb dangerous” on the AirAsia app chat service, which was flagged and reported to police. Liu and her companion were arrested at their hotel on Sept. 20. She pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation. Her lawyer argued she had no intent to cause fear, only to get attention. However, the magistrate stressed such actions are serious and could cause widespread panic.
