KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Businessperson Albert Tei has produced an alleged support letter signed by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Jeffrey Kitingan backing a sand mining licence application in Balambangan Island. The letter, dated April 25, 2022, and addressed to Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, appeared to endorse the project as a job creator and revenue contributor.

When contacted, Kitingan declined to comment. This comes a day after Tei released a video alleging Kitingan received the largest payout in the Sabah mining scandal, amounting to RM1.78 million. Kitingan has denied involvement, claiming he cannot “really recall” conversations with Tei about money.
