KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian activists escalated protests against U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit by hanging his effigy upside down near the U.S. embassy along Jalan Tun Razak this morning.

The demonstration, organised by the activist group Gegar, condemned Trump as an “imperialist, warmonger, zionist and murderer.” It called on Malaysians to reject his presence at the ASEAN Summit in October. Protesters also disrupted the Intercontinental Hotel, where Malaysia hosted a U.S. Army regional conference from September 24 to 26, further voicing opposition to Washington’s role in global conflicts.
The group, known for pro-Palestine actions, recently staged a rally at TRX mall during the iPhone 17 launch. Critics argue Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government undermines its Palestine stance by hosting Trump and U.S. officials.
