KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Democratic Action Party (DAP) international affairs secretary Kasthuri Patto has questioned Malaysian border security following the execution of convicted drug trafficker Datchinamurthy Kataiah in Singapore.
She asked why drug mules are often caught in Singapore rather than by Malaysian authorities before crossing the border, raising concerns over possible lapses. Kasthuri warned that if smugglers can move drugs undetected, other dangerous items or human trafficking could also go unnoticed.

She urged Malaysia to boost resources to catch mules before they leave the country, stressing their potential to provide intelligence against syndicates. Kasthuri also criticised capital punishment, saying it unfairly targets the poor while leaving the privileged untouched, and argued the death penalty is not an effective deterrent.
