A viral video circulating on X captured a group of teenagers apparently protesting the new RM1.99 RON95 subsidy eligibility rule, which requires a valid driving licence and MyKad. Critics quickly pounced on the #Rempit as misguided, with various X users condemning the act.
One user mocked the demonstrators, saying: “To find a rempit with a licence is harder than finding a pearl.” Another added, “If you don’t renew your licence, don’t expect subsidy — simple as that.”

Many comments also highlighted the irony: protesting a benefit you don’t legally qualify for seemed self-defeating. Some called it a stunt to gain attention, rather than a genuine grievance. Some even thought it was better to give foreigners, the taboo of the moment, subsidised fuel instead of the rempits who will burn the fuel on streets recklessly!
