Malaysia will soon launch the Non-Employment Injury Scheme to provide 24/7 protection for workers, including those in flexible or remote roles.
New Injury Scheme for Workers
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the initiative at the World Social Security Forum 2025, stating that workplace pressures extend beyond office hours and traditional boundaries.
The scheme aims to cover injuries sustained outside working hours, recognising that “accidents do not keep a timetable.” It aligns with Human Resources Minister Steven Sim’s earlier proposal for a Non-Occupational Accident Scheme (SKBBK). The reform is part of efforts to modernise Malaysia’s legal framework and ensure inclusive worker protection.
