SINGAPORE — Scientists have raised concerns over the growing threat of tick-borne diseases in Southeast Asia, with Singapore at risk due to migratory birds carrying infected ticks across borders. At the South-east Asia Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases Symposium, researchers revealed the first detection of the severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) in humans in Malaysia.

Researchers stressed the need for vigilance, regional cooperation, and stronger studies to better understand the spread of these potentially fatal diseases.
