KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — DAP legal bureau chairperson Ramkarpal Singh has urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to clarify the “technical error” that led to heavy sanctions by FIFA.
He said the issue must be disclosed publicly since taxpayer funds support the national team and may be used to cover FIFA’s fine of 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.9 million) imposed on FAM, alongside 2,000 Swiss francs on each sanctioned “heritage” player.
FAM explanations needed
Seven players, including Gabriel Felipe Arrocha and Rodrigo Julian Holgado, have also been suspended for 12 months. FIFA ruled falsified documents enabled them to feature in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. Ramkarpal stressed public transparency is essential to determine if FIFA’s decision was reasonable.
