PUTRAJAYA: The government expects to save billions of ringgit annually by excluding nearly 900,000 foreigners from the Budi95 fuel subsidy scheme, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced. Based on Road Transport Department (JPJ) records, 878,279 foreign nationals — including more than 18,000 permanent residents — hold Malaysian driving licences but will not be eligible for subsidised RON95 petrol.

Loke said previously this group benefited from subsidies meant for Malaysians. To qualify, motorists must have a valid MyKad and Competent Driving Licence (CDL). He added that fewer than one percent of Malaysians may face issues due to outdated licence-MyKad records.
