KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians holding Singapore driving licences will soon be eligible for the RON95 petrol subsidy under the Budi95 scheme. The Transport Ministry announced plans for a registration system to include citizens who had to exchange their Malaysian licences for Singapore ones due to work requirements. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said these Malaysians are still entitled to the subsidy since they reside in Malaysia, despite using Singapore permits.

The system will take about two weeks to complete, as privacy laws prevent data sharing between Singapore and Malaysia’s transport authorities. Until then, affected motorists cannot benefit from the RM1.99 per litre capped subsidy. Around 200,000 to 250,000 Malaysians commute daily to Singapore for work.
