SINGAPORE: Close to half of middle-aged women in Singapore have reported mental health concerns, yet only 59 per cent have sought professional support, according to a preliminary survey by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations and James Cook University. Among those who did not seek help, over 70 per cent cited feeling like a burden to others.

Findings were presented at the Summit for Action on Gender Equality on Sept 29. Experts noted that women face pressures from menopause, caregiving, and workplace competition, which impact mental health. Panelists stressed the importance of creating supportive environments that encourage open discussion. Initiatives, including gender equality workshops in the armed forces, aim to reshape perceptions and promote understanding.
