PAS has condemned Malaysiakini’s report revealing a network of 263 fake social media accounts allegedly used to boost Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s popularity. Its Information Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, called the findings shameful and questioned if public funds were involved.
PAS Slams Alleged Fake Account
The PMO denied any government link or funding, attributing the activity to individual freedom of expression. Experts say the pattern reflects professional astroturfing—creating false grassroots support.
The accounts contributed nearly 25% of comments on Anwar’s posts over three months. Critics urge transparency, especially as similar manipulation linked to PDRM was previously exposed by Meta. No investigation has been ordered so far.
