SIDOARJO, Oct 2 – Hopes are fading for survivors after rescuers reported “no more signs of life” at a collapsed boarding school in Java, Indonesia, where 59 people remain missing. The multi-storey building caved in on Monday during afternoon prayers, leaving families in anguish as they await news of loved ones. So far, five deaths have been confirmed, with a handful of survivors pulled from the rubble.

Officials say the rescue is hampered by unstable structures, forcing teams to dig narrow tunnels with extreme caution. Families, initially reluctant, have now consented to the use of heavy machinery to accelerate efforts. Early investigations suggest poor construction contributed to the disaster, sparking calls for accountability.
