Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP) president P. Waythamoorthy has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to hold a special parliamentary debate over United States President Donald Trump’s planned attendance at the Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur next month.

Parliament debate

Waytha said the invitation has stirred widespread objections and must be openly addressed in Parliament—the “heartbeat of democracy.” He proposed that the debate be scheduled on Oct 6, the first day of the parliamentary sitting, to allow the government to justify its decision and for opposition lawmakers to voice concerns.

He stressed that transparency would reassure Malaysians, uphold free speech, and reflect Anwar’s commitment to madanivalues of justice, compassion and accountability.
