The tremor, occurring after 11pm, reduced buildings, churches, and homes to rubble, leaving survivors in makeshift shelters amid ongoing aftershocks. Bogo City reported nearly half the fatalities, making it the hardest-hit area.
Cebu Quake Death Toll Rises
On Oct 2, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr visited, announcing 220 million pesos (S$4.9 million) for rehabilitation and plans for a “tent city” with supplies and generators for displaced families. Due to the shallow quake’s extensive structural damage, evacuations to schools or centers are challenging, with residents preferring to stay outdoors for safety.
