Criticism over US President Donald Trump’s planned visit to Malaysia has escalated, with Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh threatening nationwide protests if Malaysian activists detained aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla are not freed. Akmal urged Putrajaya to rescind Trump’s Asean Summit invitation, warning that Umno Youth would confront the American leader directly in Kuala Lumpur.

“Hurting them is the same as hurting all Malaysians,” he declared on Facebook. He also accused the government of misusing taxpayers’ money to welcome “a figure complicit in oppression.” Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham echoed the sentiment, insisting Malaysia must lead Asean in demanding justice instead of rolling out the red carpet for Trump.
