PUTRAJAYA – The Federal Court today dismissed a Muslim convert’s application for leave to challenge a Court of Appeal ruling that rejected his bid to renounce Islam. A three-member bench led by Justice Abu Bakar Jais ruled the issue fell strictly under the jurisdiction of the shariah court.
Muslim Convert
The 47-year-old man, who converted in 2010 to marry a Muslim woman before divorcing five years later, first applied to the shariah court in 2016 to return to his original faith. His request was rejected, and he was instead ordered to undergo counselling sessions. Appeals to both the shariah appellate court and civil courts also failed. The Federal Court said no novel issue was raised. Don’t play play?
