Land Dispute in Klang Stalls Completion of RM7.07b West Coast Expressway

A long-running land dispute in Kampung Jawa, Klang, has delayed the completion of the RM7.07 billion West Coast Expressway (WCE), a key highway linking Banting to Taiping. About 95 per cent of the 233km expressway is completed, but a 150m section remains unfinished due to unresolved compensation claims over 1.8ha of land. Nineteen landowners are contesting the RM9.8 million offered, claiming market valuations are closer to RM32 million.

Some homes were demolished in June despite disputes still pending. The delay has disrupted industries depending on Port Klang, forcing heavy vehicles onto congested routes and raising logistics costs. The case will be heard in January at the Shah Alam High Court, pushing completion to 2026, Singapore Straits Times wrote.
