A Singapore divorce case took a costly turn after both spouses were found to have misused marital funds for personal splurges. The husband, a managing director earning $37,500 monthly, spent about $74,700 on himself — including a $32,000 hair transplant, $8,700 on dental work, and $30,000 for knee surgery — shortly before filing for divorce. He claimed these were paid from his $200,000 annual bonus, which his ex-wife accused him of hiding.

Justice Choo Han Teck ruled the spending was excessive and ordered the amounts, along with a $6,200 piano purchase, to be added back to the matrimonial pool. The wife, who earns $18,000 monthly, was also ordered to return $78,000 she had transferred to her father after the divorce proceedings began. The judge found her explanation inconsistent with her usual allowance pattern, deeming the transfer an attempt to conceal funds.
