A new generation of Cambodian women is reshaping the nation’s coffee culture through entrepreneurial grit and creativity. Across Phnom Penh, thousands of young women — many from Generation Z — are launching mobile coffee kiosks or working as baristas, carving out financial independence and redefining traditional career paths.

Alarm Clock Coffee founder Vy Chandra Rainsey said the trend reflects a growing movement of youth-led businesses that blend innovation with opportunity. “Coffee lovers are becoming coffee shop owners,” he said, noting that the low start-up costs and digital tools make it easier to enter the trade.
Nearly 70 per cent of his staff are young women, highlighting the rising role of female entrepreneurs in Cambodia, where women already own more than 60 per cent of small and medium enterprises. As Rainsey puts it, these young baristas are brewing more than coffee — they’re brewing change.
