Malaysian Nabbed Trying to Smuggle 400 Packs of Duty-Unpaid Cigarettes into Singapore

A 32-year-old Malaysian was arrested on Sept 30 after attempting to smuggle more than 400 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore on a Malaysia-registered motorcycle. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said its officers, acting on intelligence from the Integrated Targeting Centre, directed the rider for enhanced checks.

Hidden compartments in the bike’s side fairings contained the contraband, which officers removed during inspection. The case has been referred to Singapore Customs for investigation. ICA said its Integrated Targeting Centre uses data analytics to identify high-risk travellers, vehicles and cargo before they reach Singapore. – Photo: Screengrab/ICA/Facebook
