KUALA LUMPUR: The long-awaited separation of powers between the Attorney General (AG) and public prosecutor is set to materialise next year through amendments to the Federal Constitution and two supporting bills.
Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said one amendment would define the source of authority, while the accompanying bills would determine public prosecutors’ salaries and amend 19 related acts.

She told the Dewan Rakyat the move fulfills Pakatan Harapan’s reform agenda. Responding to Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN–Kota Bharu), Azalina added that whether the AG becomes part of the administration and answers to Parliament will depend on future government policy.
