KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Six Malaysian states — Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Sabah and Sarawak — have been identified as earthquake-prone zones, said Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that studies by the Mineral and Geoscience Department and the Malaysian Meteorological Department found fault zones in these states through active fault mapping. The Malaysian Seismic Hazard Map is currently being updated with new geological and seismic data.
Huang said while tremors in Johor’s Segamat and Batu Pahat are due to ancient fault movements, the state remains safe. Authorities are enhancing seismic monitoring and upgrading stations under a national earthquake preparedness initiative.
