The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Cost (KPDN) suspects some Malaysians near the border are colluding with smugglers by lending their MyKads to illegally obtain subsidised RON95 petrol under the BUDI MADANI programme.

The fuel, sold at RM1.99 per litre locally, can fetch around RM5.30 per litre in Thailand, giving smugglers up to RM90 profit per 30 litres. While giving one’s MyKad is not illegal, it enables subsidy abuse.
KPDN Kelantan and the Ministry of Economy are stepping up border monitoring to prevent fuel diversion and ensure fair distribution to genuine recipients amid rising complaints from station operators and locals.
