KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Two PAS lawmakers have urged the government to provide a special allowance for stay-at-home mothers, calling it an investment in early childhood education. Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden proposed that housewives be recognised as “professionals” deserving financial support so they can focus on raising children.
Stay-at-Home Mothers
Kubang Kerian MP and PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man backed the idea, noting that daycare costs often consume nearly all of a working mother’s income. They made the suggestion during a Dewan Rakyat debate on early childhood development, where other MPs including Muar’s Syed Saddiq highlighted the shortage of nurseries and the financial strain on working parents.
