KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has issued a stern reminder to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing after alcohol was served at an industry dinner linked to Tourism Malaysia’s Global Travel Meet.

Anwar said he did not accept Tiong’s explanation that the event was not a government function, stressing that “alcohol cannot be served at official government events.” He urged ministers and government agencies to be more cautious in upholding official protocols. Photos from the dinner showing guests holding alcoholic beverages sparked public criticism and calls for Tiong’s resignation. Tiong has since denied that the drinks were served during the government segment of the event.
