KUALA LUMPUR – The High Court has set November 5 to deliver its decision on the Daim Zainuddin family’s application for leave to pursue a judicial review over the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) seizure and freezing of their bank accounts.
Justice Aliza Sulaiman fixed the date after hearing submissions from senior federal counsel Nurhafizza Azizan, representing the Attorney-General, and lawyer Gurdial Singh Nijar for the Daim family.
Asset Seizure
Gurdial argued that the MACC exceeded its powers by using multiple statutes to prolong the freeze, while Nurhafizza said the move was lawful under the Anti-Money Laundering Act and part of an ongoing criminal probe. The family maintains no charges have been filed since the seizures.
