Taman Desa Residents Vote ‘No’ to New Development Plan in Viral ‘Pasar Malam’ Poll

Taman Desa residents are rallying to protect two plots of land—originally designated for a playground and police station—from being redeveloped into condominiums.

The Protect Taman Desa group launched a creative “pasar malam” voting campaign, which went viral, showing unanimous opposition to the project. Inspired by TTDI’s legal win over Taman Rimba Kiara, the group raised RM75,000 for legal fees and is now crowdfunding RM97,000 more. 

Volunteers, from students to retirees, are leading town halls and outreach efforts. They argue that preserving green and civic spaces is a community responsibility, and apathy—not developers—is the biggest threat to their neighbourhood.
