Petronas CEO Tengku Taufik Apologises Over Singapore GP Champagne Celebration

Petronas president and group CEO Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik has apologised for joining champagne celebrations at the Singapore Grand Prix, admitting his actions “may have been misplaced.” He clarified he did not consume alcohol but acknowledged the sensitivity of such displays as a Muslim.

Tengku Taufik Apologises

The celebration followed Mercedes-AMG Petronas’ much-awaited victory, where he received the Winning Constructor Trophy. Photos of him being sprayed with champagne went viral, prompting criticism from PAS information chief Fadhli Shaari, who said Muslims should avoid such revelry. Tengku Taufik took full responsibility and reaffirmed Petronas’ commitment to motorsport excellence and innovation.
