The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen 41 bank accounts worth RM70 million and seized RM13 million in assets following a raid on companies linked to illegal tyre smuggling and document falsification.
MACC Freezes RM70 Million
The multi-agency operation, “Op Grip,” uncovered sticker fraud and barcode tampering involving new tyres purchased from unauthorized traders. Two companies have been identified, though no arrests have been made. Investigators warn the unregistered imports pose safety risks.
MACC has opened a governance probe and is investigating under Section 18 of the MACC Act and Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act. Investigations remain ongoing.
