Petronas CEO Tengku Taufik Apologises Over Singapore GP Champagne Celebration

Amanah’s arts, culture, and sports bureau chairperson Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim has criticised Petronas president and CEO Tengku Taufik Tengku Aziz, saying his apology over the “champagne shower” at the Singapore Grand Prix is not enough. Wan Anwar urged the government, as Petronas’ owner, to take internal action to prevent a repeat of such behaviour.

Petronas CEO’s Apology

He said Taufik’s explanation of being “overwhelmed by victory” was unacceptable, noting that photos clearly showed him spraying and being drenched in alcohol. Wan Anwar also questioned the double standard of criticising non-Muslims for alcohol-related insensitivity while excusing similar acts by Muslim leaders.
