KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has blamed Malaysia’s political instability on leaders who aspire to be prime minister but lack vision and ideas to lead the nation. The former finance minister said many are driven by personal ambition rather than responsibility, worsening divisions within parties and the country.

He urged leaders to emulate the nation’s founding fathers, who practised moderation and unity in governing a multiethnic society. “True leadership is about embracing everyone, both weak and strong, Malay and non-Malay,” he said. Tengku Razaleigh warned that parties adopting extreme positions—whether PAS or DAP—cannot govern effectively, adding that leadership demands fairness, balance, and a focus on the nation’s collective good.
