SINGAPORE, Oct 11 — Money changers across Singapore have seen surging crowds as the Japanese yen hit a record low against the Singapore dollar. The exchange rate fell to around 117.85 yen per dollar, with some changers offering as high as 117.1 yen. Following Sanae Takaichi’s victory in Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party election, the yen weakened further, prompting Singaporeans to exchange large sums — some up to $5,000 at a time.

At The Arcade and People’s Park Complex, queues formed as changers posted attractive rates, with City Money Changer offering 117.12 yen. Many, like Zhao Jinkang, 30, began exchanging early for future trips, capitalising on what they see as the best rates in months.
