KUALA LUMPUR — Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has compared Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s welfare programmes to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s BR1M scheme, saying both share similar structures. Speaking on his Yang Berhenti Menteri podcast, Rafizi said initiatives such as the Rahmah Necessities Aid (Sara) and Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) should be made permanent social policies rather than political tools.

He also criticised the government’s move to have teachers distribute RM150 school aid to parents, calling it regressive. Rafizi further urged the government to address the RM41 billion owed to PTPTN, warning that unresolved debt issues could undermine financial sustainability.
