KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed grave concern over Malaysia’s rising road fatalities, revealing that 60,000 lives were lost nationwide in the past decade. He said 82 per cent of victims were motorcyclists or pillion riders, with most under 30.

“About 6,000 people die each year — that’s skilled manpower the country loses annually,” Zahid said, urging youths to value their lives and families.
Note that Thailand has a high number of annual fatalities, estimated at about 18,000 to 25,000, with motorcyclists making up a significant portion of these deaths.
