KUALA LUMPUR — Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the upcoming Sabah state election will be Umno’s final opportunity to prove its strength before the 16th General Election (GE16).
He described the polls as a key indicator of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) performance nationwide, saying Umno remains the underdog in Sabah’s volatile political landscape.

Zahid said BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have finalised cooperation with no overlapping seats, while candidate selection prioritises young, female, and grassroots leaders.
He added that Umno Sabah holds full autonomy in choosing candidates and remains open to post-election cooperation, including with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
