The government has allocated RM4.3 million this year to repair and maintain 115 KEMAS preschools and nurseries in Sarawak, with 20 new projects approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan. Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said Sarawak has 1,010 KEMAS premises, but 189 still operate in borrowed spaces.
Govt Approves 20 KEMAS Projects
A proposal to gazette these shared premises was tabled in June, enabling upgrades and safer learning environments. Rubiah stressed the importance of formalising these sites to support children and educators. The announcement came in response to MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli’s query on efforts to improve facilities still in poor or temporary conditions.
