Malaysia Loses RM3.6 Billion to Commercial Crime in Nine Months

Malaysia recorded 52,000 commercial crime cases from January to September 2025, with losses totaling RM3.6 billion—an 81.6% increase from last year. Online scams, including romance and fake investment schemes, made up 80% of cases.

Malaysia Loses RM3.6 Billion to Crime

Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said the National Scam Response Centre, led by the Royal Malaysia Police, has received over 266,000 calls since 2022. Nearly 21,000 suspects were arrested this year, and over 14,000 awareness activities were held.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to combat fraud and restore public trust. The government views commercial crime as a serious threat to national financial security.
