KUALA LUMPUR — Perikatan Nasional’s Hulu Selangor MP Hasnizan Harun has urged the transport ministry to end the serving of alcoholic beverages on Malaysia Airlines flights, saying it violates Islamic principles and burdens Muslim flight attendants. Speaking during the Dewan Rakyat debate on the 2026 Supply Bill, Hasnizan said many Muslim crew members face a moral dilemma when required to serve alcohol.

He stressed the move was not about denying rights but respecting Malaysia’s majority-Muslim population. The issue echoes a 2017 PAS call after a drunk passenger caused a MAS flight to turn back to Melbourne. Separately, the tourism ministry pledged stricter oversight of official events following a recent controversy involving alcohol at a government dinner.
