The Society for Rights of Indigenous Peoples of Sarawak (Scrips) has raised concerns over the effectiveness of federal budget allocations, questioning why rural communities remain underserved despite RM6 billion in funding.

Secretary-general Michael Jok, after visiting Belaga, highlighted crumbling roads and poor connectivity as signs of neglect. While acknowledging Putrajaya’s consistent financial support, Jok stressed that grassroots impact remains minimal.
He urged transparency and asked whether flood mitigation, infrastructure upgrades, and essential services will finally reach longhouse communities. Despite record allocations, Jok warned that over one million rural Sarawakians still await tangible improvements. State leaders, he said, owe them answers.
