JOHOR BAHRU — The Tebrau PKR division has criticised the sale of chicken, mutton, and fish at the Sri Maha Muniswarar Aalayam temple in Desa Cemerlang during the “Jualan Kasih Johor” event. Division chief Prakash Maniam said the act was insensitive and violated Hindu religious norms. He urged authorities and organisers to consult temple committees before holding public programmes near houses of worship.

A viral video of the Oct 12 event sparked backlash from Hindus online. The temple committee apologised, saying the sale occurred without its knowledge or approval, and promised stricter oversight. Chairperson Sundaram Selvanathan said a special purification ceremony would be held to restore the temple’s sanctity.
