Israel’s national anthem was booed by sections of the crowd before their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Italy in Udine. The jeers followed a pro-Palestinian demonstration that turned violent outside the Bluenergy Stadium. While some 10,000 spectators attended, applause from other fans eventually drowned out the boos, as Israeli supporters continued singing their anthem.

Meanwhile, South Africa secured qualification after defeating Rwanda 3-0 in Mbombela to top Group C. Qatar also advanced to the 2026 World Cup, overcoming the United Arab Emirates 2-1 in Doha with second-half goals from Boualem Khoukhi and Pedro Miguel.
