Singapore’s multiracial ideal remains unfinished despite 60 years of nationhood, said the Coordinating Minister for National Security in Parliament on Tuesday. He warned that Singapore’s apparent stability could unravel if future leaders resort to race or religion-based identity politics, calling it “a one-way street to ruin.”

He noted that minorities still face racism and discrimination, while some Chinese have also shared isolated experiences of bias. The minister urged continued vigilance and unity, stressing that Singapore must not repeat the social divisions seen in other nations.
