Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh has dismissed a Pas MP’s proposal to ban alcoholic beverages on Malaysia Airlines flights as “ignorant and short-sighted.” He said such a move would damage the carrier’s international competitiveness and worsen its financial struggles.

“Malaysia Airlines must compete with major carriers like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and Qatar Airways, all of which serve alcohol,” Wong said. The Progressive Democratic Party senior vice-president warned that politicising the issue could hurt the national economy. He urged Pas to stop using religion for political gain if it hopes to join the federal government.
