KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — DAP veteran Lim Guan Eng (Harapan–Bagan) has urged the government to reinstate caning as a disciplinary measure in all schools, including private institutions, amid escalating violence and safety concerns. Debating Budget 2026, he said trained teachers should conduct caning under psychological supervision to ensure safety.
Caning must return?

Umno’s Bung Moktar Radin and Harapan’s Azli Yusof supported the proposal, citing its past effectiveness. The call follows recent student-related tragedies, including fatal stabbings and sexual assault cases. Lim also urged emergency funding to install CCTVs in over 10,000 schools nationwide.
