KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) has not named its prime minister candidate for the 16th general election, citing fears of sabotage against potential nominees. PAS president and PN deputy chairman Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the coalition prioritises leader integrity and is avoiding risks that could jeopardise candidates.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Hadi warned that early announcements could expose individuals to false accusations or planted evidence, such as bribery or drugs. He emphasised that PN’s focus remains on winning the election before selecting a leader. Hadi added that PAS applies an Islamic-based vetting process that disqualifies members involved in moral or ethical misconduct, even if it reduces the party’s seat count.
