Umno has postponed its annual general assembly to Jan 14–17, 2026, following the announcement of the Sabah state election next month. The meeting was originally scheduled for Nov 26–29, which coincides with polling day. Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the move allows party leaders and members to focus on helping Barisan Nasional regain voter confidence in Sabah.

The Election Commission has set nomination day for Nov 15 and polling for Nov 29. The election is expected to see multi-cornered fights involving GRS, BN, PN, Warisan, and several local Sabah parties.
